Harlem is a neighborhood that encompass a large portion of northern Manhattan. The neighborhood is famous for the Harlem Renaissance; an intellectual, cultural and artistic movement that started in the 1920’s by African American writers, musicians and poets.
Notable institutions in the Area include Columbia University, the legendary Apollo Theater and great eateries like Sylvia's Restaurant, Red Rooster and Ricardo Steak House. In the past few years’ developers and investors have been rushing to Harlem, thanks to its rich cultural heritage, socioeconomic diversity and comparatively affordable prices. Harlem is most likely going to be New York's next "it" neighborhood.
