Union Square was named after Union Square Park, which is located between 14th Street and 17th Street. You can think of Union Square as the entry to downtown Manhattan. The neighborhood is an important intersection that links Gramercy Park Flatiron and East Village given its central location. There are many restaurants and bars there. The area also has a large selection of residential and commercial real estate spaces.
Union square is home to a wonderful weekend farmer’s market as well as occasional seasonal markets such as the Christmas Market in December. Many large retailers are present such as Best Buy, DSW, Burlington Coat Factory, Wholefood Supermarket, a couple of movie theaters and Broadway theaters.
It is an ideal location for many NYU students which has many sub-campuses in the half mile radius that comprises Union Square.
